Testing for continuity and shorts of electrical wiring.

Cables, harnesses, bare PCBs and other wired assemblies as well as insulation resistance test needs to be checked for continuity and shorts of electrical wiring. Circuit, shown in figure 1, allows you to perform such checks. Test of the entire object consists of a sequence of elementary control operations (ECO). The number of ECO depends on the number of points of the tested object and on the used algorithm. Number of points of the object in aviation, marine and railway equipment can be large (up to 32,000 points, and more). Therefore, checking on the principle of each point on each requires a large number of ECO and requires a large time of the check. I have developed an algorithm, which requires a much smaller number of ECO (ECO=k* log (n/4) where n is number of object points). This algorithm can be used in such testers, in which memory elements are used. In the circuit shown in Figure 1 as elements of memory capacitors are used.

Figure 1.

The disadvantage of the circuit shown in Figure 1 is a large error in determining of the resistance between the connected points. The circuit shown in Figure 2, allows more correctly determine the resistance between points. Memory elements are included in the shift registers. Use of the shift registers (Serial-in to Parallel-out Shift Registers) simplifies the design of testers and improves its consumer qualities. The disadvantage of the shown in Figure 2 scheme is the need to perform a large number of operations. This number is proportional to the square of the number of contacts of the circuit being tested. I have developed a method that greatly reduces the number of required operations. With this method, the number of required operations is proportional to the number of contacts..
